life-cycle of a plant: germination→ seedling →establishment→growth & development→flowering and fruiting→senescence and death.
(Senescence is a sequence of events allowing the deterioration of cells and organs, which will lead to the death of all or part of a plant.)
It’s largely dependent on the species. Annuals die every year with a short life span, they pass on their seed and turn to compost. But some plants live much longer. There’s an old saying about the Oak tree that it grows for 300 years, rests for 300 years, and gracefully dies for 300 years. Plants all may die differently but in the end all plants eventually die.
